December 4, the Parliament of Bermuda has approved the Casino Gaming Amendment Act. The amendments allow international investors to launch at least three casino resorts in the most touristed islands. The bill also provides for establishing three-step licensing process as well as launching of The Problem Gaming Council for regulation of the market. In the coming months, authorities would set the conditions to start the construction of the casino resorts.
The St. Regis and Fairmont Hamilton Princess hotels have received the “designated site orders” — the first of three permit documents. The second license step involves obtaining a permit for construction of the casino floor in the hotels, and the third — granting a gambling license.
