According to the Macau police, in the first quarter of 2017, the level of crimes related to gambling has increased by 15% compared to the same period of the last year. Totally, 432 gambling-related crimes were recorded.
According to police reports, cases of illegal detention in custody associated, as a rule, with gambling debts and lending have increased. The number of such crimes increased by 18%, reaching 105. At the same time, the police notes a decrease in the level of illegal usury by 16%. the number of crimes with forged currency and chips almost doubled, from 50 to 95 cases.
In total, 445 suspects were detained on charges of committing gambling-related crimes, which is 5% more than in the previous year. According to Macau’s secretary for security, Wong Sio Chak, the victims and offenders are not most often residents of Macau.
