According to a survey conducted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, commissioned by the Ping Wo Fund, the country’s residents prefer to gamble in local floating casinos, instead of visiting Macau’s land casinos.
Hong Kong residents from 15 to 64 years old took part in the study on citizens’ gambling habits. In addition to questions about favorite gambling places, respondents were asked about visits to foreign casinos, parimutuel betting and online casinos. The study revealed that over the past year the country’s residents lost 45 thousand Hong Kong dollars in floating casinos, while only 7.9 thousand Hong Kong dollars — in the casino of Macau .
The total number of citizens playing in various gambling games amounted to 61.5%. This is by 15.5% less than the same indicator for 2001.
