In India, the owners of six poker rooms in Gujarat filed a petition to recognize poker as a game of skill. The Supreme Court of the State postponed the hearing on this case until June 23.
According to GLaws, the online edition, Judge G.R. Udhwani delayed the hearing of the case, so that the state government could comment on the statements made in the petition.
Club owners reported their repeated attempts to apply for legalization of poker, facing only police harassment. Each petition filed by an owner of the poker room ended in a police raid in the poker room.
After futile attempts to overcome police obstruction, the owners of poker clubs united and filed a joint petition to recognize poker as a game of skill. The straw that breaks the camel’s back of businessmen was the State police order about the recognition of poker as a game of chance.
