The prospect of opening a gambling market in Brazil has attracted the attention of major gambling operators. Gambling has been banned in Brazil for the past 70 years. Currently, legislators are discussing two projects for the gambling legalization.
According to local media, Marcelo Crivella, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, and Adelson, the gambling magnate and the head of Las Vegas Sands Sheldon, held a meeting where they discussed the construction of Las Vegas Sands, an integrated resort worth $ 8 billion, in Rio de Janeiro. During the meeting, the parties did not address the issue of opening a casino, however, this topic is assumed to become relevant after the gambling legalization in Brazil.
The gambling legalization is expected to make it possible to turn Brazil into one of the largest and most lucrative gambling markets in the world.
In addition to Las Vegas Sands, MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment and Red Rock Resorts, as well as the Portuguese operator Estoril del Sol & Casinos have shown interest in the development of the Brazilian gambling market.
