The police of the Philippines has identified the identity of the criminal who made fire shooting and arson at Resorts World Manila.
According to Oscar Albayalde, the National Capital Region Police Chief, the assailant Jessie Carlos Javier was a former tax specialist in the Philippine Department of Finance. The police also confirmed that 42-year-old Carlos was a problem gambler, the amount of his gambling debt was PHP4m dollars ($ 81,000).
Since April 2017, Carlos has been banned access to all casinos belonging to PAGCOR, the Philippine gambling regulator. The ban was introduced at the request of Carlos family members, who, because of his gambling addiction, lost his job. The police believe that the ban on casino access could trigger Carlos’s aggressive actions.
On June 1, the man entered Resorts World Manila, where he opened fire from a rifle and set several gambling tables on fire. As a result, 37 people were killed and more than 50 were injured. The attacker himself was found dead five hours later. The police found that he committed suicide.
Law enforcers have excluded Jesse Carlos Javier’s connection with any terrorist organization, the criminal’s actions are regarded as an attempt to rob a casino.
