New York Senate Finance Committee has approved a bill on the legalization of online poker as a game of skill. S-3898 online poker bill was submitted to the Senate for further voting.
The bill involves the reclassification of Texas Hold’em and Omaha Hold’em as games of luck and their legalization within the state. Moreover, S-3898 bill provides for the implementation of a responsible gambling policy, adherence to age limits and prevention of fraud.
Despite the presence of many legislative barriers, many believe in New York that the bill has the necessary support to be adopted this year. If the bill comes into force, interested online operators will be able to apply for a license from the New York State Gambling Commission.
