Rodrigo Duterte, president of the Philippines, has issued the Executive Order No. 13 which intensifies efforts to combat illegal online gambling. The Order allows PAGCOR (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation) to prohibit online gambling websites that operate without local license.
The Government had appointed a special inter-ministerial group to curb illegal iGaming. It includes the Philippines National Police (PNP), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). Under the president’s commands, the departments will work to finish illegal online gambling activities.
“The State condemns the existence of illegal gambling activities as a widespread social menace and source of corruption, as it has become an influential factor in an individual’s disregard for the value of dignified work, perseverance and thrift,” the Order stated.
In December last year, Rodrigo Duterte intend to conduct investigation the activities of casinos owned by billionaire Jack Lam. In particular, Duterte noted that Lam’s casinos have been paying taxes only for bets set by local players, but not for foreign ones.
