Richard Gordon, Philippine Senator, initiated the creation of a separate gambling regulator for online gambling, the Philippine Online Gaming and Regulatory Authority (POGRA).
POGRA will allow the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) to continue to inspect ground-based casinos at a better level.
“Specialization will allow PAGCOR to purchase and use the latest equipment and technologies designed specifically for monitoring ground-based gambling. In turn, POGRA will take on board the technology for high-quality control of the online sphere, ” the senator pointed.
Gordon’s Initiative has already received the support of Vitaliano Aguirre, Justice Secretary. The minister believes that the division of regulators’ responsibilities will help to eliminate “gray zones” in the gambling sphere.
As a reminder, last February, Rodrigo Duterte, president of the Philippines, issued the Executive Order No. 13 which intensifies efforts to combat illegal online gambling. The Order allows PAGCOR (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation) to prohibit online gambling websites that operate without local license.
