German SoWiTec Group is going to invest over RUB 6 billion ($180 million) in the construction of a wind farm on the situ of the former Azov-City gambling zone, on the coast of Taganrog Bay of the Azov Sea.
The wind-powered electric generators with a capacity of up to 200MW would be built by 2014-2015. The plant may become the major wind energy project in Russia, as there is only 11MW of installed wind power capacity in the country.
“We have examined this area for compliance with the requirements for the construction of the wind farm. This region has good wind potential and we are confident in our choice,” Igor Burakov, general director of the Investment Development Agency of the Rostov Region, said.
Azov-City gambling zone is the most advanced and largest of all existing Russian gambling zones. Despite the decision adopted in 2015 on liquidation of the Azov-City in connection with the foundation of a new zone in Sochi gambling zone, all the Azov-City casinos keep working normally.
