The bill on the ban prohibiting betting on Junior competitions is taken into consideration by the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Deputies of LDPR acted as initiators of the bill.
According to Igor Lebedev, a member of the Executive Committee of the Russian Football Union and one of the authors of the bill, the frequent cases of match-fixing among youth teams became the main prerequisite for initiating this ban.
According to Lebedev, the mentality of minor athletes is less stable than mentality of the adult. It increases risk that the teenager will agree to participate in a game with the predetermined result.
“We have recently received reports of strange matches from the members of children teams and their coaches. The reasons of suspicious results of competitions emerge at analysis of the situation,” the official told.
The new bill includes not only a ban on operators accepting bets on youth sports competitions, as well as the ban on the organization of betting in bookmaker offices on such competitions between two or more gambling participants.
