Macau casino workers went on strike in order to demand a 5% pay increase and to adopt legislation that would benefit trade unions.

According to the strike organizers, Professionals for Gaming of New Macau, the main task of the strike is to draw the authorities’ attention to the low wages of the casino employees, and make the casinos understand the need periodically to raise staff salaries due to regularly attack of inflation.


Sands China Limited, the operator of Sands Macao, The Venetial Macao Resort Hotel, Sands Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao, announced that they have already decided to raise the salaries of their workers. Local legislators Antonio Ng Kuok Cheong and Au Kam San have also articulated their support for new legislation that would ensure a better regulation of trade union activities.
