The Vietnamese government abolished the ban on local residents visiting casinos. Residents of the country got access to gambling for a three-month period “on an experimental basis”.
Most of the Vietnamese have not yet realized their right to gambling because the government has not announced formal requirements for implementing authorized access to gambling establishments.
According to the decree, people over 21 years old with monthly income equal to or more than $ 400 were granted access to gambling. According to Nguyen Hoang Hai, deputy chair of the Vietnam Association of Financial Investors (VAFI), the financial qualification complicates implementing the right to visit the casino, as many solvent residents of the country cannot officially confirm their income.
Recall, the law on the casino legalization in Vietnam was adopted in July 2016. In December 2016, the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his cabinet approved a plan to develop of gambling industry in the country. The new bill, authorizing the construction of four to five casino resorts will come into force in early January 2017.
